Winter Weather is Here….Again

The agency’s bad weather practice is intended to balance employee and client safety with the need to provide services. Our overall goal is to make sure you feel safe commuting, and if the weather is making you nervous you always have the freedom to leave – or not come in – and you have the right to use earned vacation hours in lieu of work hours. Do not put yourself in a position to be on the road if you are not comfortable with that.

Winter always brings the potential for bad weather, and as in today’s case, it is typically the forecast that is more ominous than current conditions. Today we have had reports of outlying schools closing for the day, and their decision was more the result of a concern for getting students back home late in the day. The forecast for today is showing some potential for more activity around dinnertime but it does not seem to make sense to close right now. We will certainly be keeping an eye on the forecast so if things change you will hear about it.

We have a routine for closing sites, which ultimately includes a decision by the CEO.  Site leaders will watch for closing situations, and have conversations with the CEO.  That eventuality is announced locally when it happens.  Hopefully you are already aware of our working from home procedure (including prior approval) but if you have any questions about that please talk to your supervisor.

Stay safe and warm!
