Enrique Graves never liked Robert Killingsworth, Elizabeth’s husband, and Robert never liked Enrique. Robert was jealous of Enrique’s relationship with Elizabeth. Even though their relationship was never physical, she just adored Enrique.
Robert did not trust Enrique – for good reason. Enrique did not drop out of college a year ago. He was kicked out for drug possession and for attempting to sell marijuana to an undercover police officer. This was an offense for which he was arrested. After serving a short jail sentence, he headed West to California.
Enrique really was doing well for himself here. Elizabeth had him enrolled in College and Enrique had the librarian, Kathryn Lawless, wrapped around his little finger.
Robert Killingsworth, however, had tried to ruin everything for Enrique. He did some searching into Enrique’s past and discovered the arrest. As fate would have it, Robert decided to confront Enrique just as he was searching through Robert’s bank files in the study for a way to get at the Killingsworth money.
Robert was enraged and tried to call the police. Enrique could not let that happen. As soon as he turned around to pick up the phone, Enrique grabbed a candlestick from the fireplace mantle and hit him over the head. Enrique dumped Robert’s lifeless body into Friedmont Mill Lake, but should have weighted it down. Robert’s body surfaced two weeks later. Enrique cleaned the murder weapon and disposed of it by giving it to Kathryn Lawless as a birthday present. If Elizabeth ever found out that Enrique killed her husband, he would have had to kill her too.
Vicki D’Adly and Enrique were in the rose garden fooling around tonight around 5:30 PM. Either one of them could have found the corkscrew. There is only his word, however, that he did not find it. Besides, Enrique was unconscious at the time that Elizabeth was killed. He had been working on the wiring short in the wine vault when he was nearly electrocuted and blacked-out. Vicki can attest to that. There is no way Enrique could have killed Elizabeth Killingsworth.
