Town Hall Meetings – Spring 2019

I want to take a few moments to thank everyone who participated in the recent Town Hall Meetings. Its always a good opportunity for me to update the agency on projects that are going on and to listen to any concerns or new ideas you all may have. I know it’s never possible for everyone to attend so I thought I would take a few minutes to highlight a few items that were discussed.

I was able to share exit survey information including the top reason why staff separated from FCC  which was staff moving on to better job opportunities. Pay came in second as the reason why folks left. I told everyone that our turnover rate for FCC in 2018 was around 52%. This is not an unusual number for nonprofit agencies or employers in general, but it is still not where we want to be. I was able to outline new contracts FCC has been awarded and shared those opportunities where we did not get the contracts. Further, I had the opportunity to share responses to anonymous speak outs that were written to me, including three that were weather related this past winter. I did share that it would be unlikely for us to ever close the agency or have a delayed start in the future, but reminded all that every staff has the option of not working when the weather is inclement. We had a moment to talk about supervision and reminded all staff that they have a right to supervision, as a means for support and guidance. I updated staff on the strategic plan including an upcoming vision for the Weston property in La Crosse and hopes for expansion to Hiawatha Hall. Additionally, I continued to encourage staff to get involved in the agency and identified several opportunities to be on the lookout for. Specifically, the Dahl Lube-a-thon on September 21, Monte Carlo on November 7th and joining the Culture Club.

Finally, staff shared with me concerns, new ideas and requests for consideration. This included such things as the reimbursement amount for full time employees who do not elect medical insurance coverage and the procedure for various emergency phones in light of coming phone system changes. I have had the opportunity to share those with the leadership team recently and you can all expect some follow-up in the near future.

Thanks again for your time…my door is always open.
