Self-care is relatively easy in the comfort of your home, on your day off when your kids (if you have them) are in someone else’s capable care. But in the day to day bustle of work calls, meetings and paperwork, self-care can seem out of reach; a mirage in workplace desert.
Soon, Family & Children’s Center leadership team members will be encouraging all employees to create self-care plans in an effort to support wellness and overall life satisfaction. One of the distinct challenges of a self-care plan is how to work in self-care activities at work that are practical yet, effective.
The following are some examples of how FCC employees plan-fully take care of their needs at work.
“When I get really busy at work, and just need time to regroup and take care of myself to ensure my day is successful, I will take a break and eat my lunch and then go for a walk. I love to walk over by the campus, they have great benches and also a few bench Swings!! I also like to walk over by King Street to see all the old neat houses”. –Kayla
“I take the stairs at least twice a day, but usually don’t use the elevator”. – Staci
“I make sure to start the work day with a cup of tea if I know I am going to be meeting with many people in a row, it helps set a calming pace for my morning”. –Alicia
Self-care strategies will vary from person to person based on the type of work they do and their personal interests, but everyone benefits from being mindful about managing self-care at work. Consider these or other ideas when you are writing your self-care plan.
