La Crosse Community Healing Event TONIGHT (Wednesday)

La Crosse residents are invited to gather for a community building event in Powell Park. The gathering is being planned by a local citizens group following the August shootings on the Southside. The goal is to replace the ‘Old Story’ of isolation and fear with a ‘New Story’ of coming together and compassion. We know that more than one young person has been lost. We don’t want any more young people to be lost. The purpose of this event is to join hands in the belief that all of our young people belong to all of us.

The event will feature a few invited speakers, an open microphone, a moment to pause and grieve, an opportunity to share in healing our community and building a better future for our young people.

Bring your flashlights and/or candles and your own chair if desired.

Also, please know that that following week, on September 16, the City of La Crosse Human Rights Commission is having an important “Listening Session” at the Black River Beach House at 6:00, to hear from the community — the African-American community in particular at this first session  — there will be more information coming from the City’s Human Rights Commission.
