From the Desk of Vanessa Southworth, Director of MN Programs

Let’s talk about Procentive! Some of you might be groaning at the thought, and I understand. Early on, I did my best to avoid getting too involved with Procentive. The unintended consequence of that approach is that I found myself over the last several months feeling uninformed and unable to help the people I supervise with day-to-day Procentive questions or training needs. As a result, I began to lean heavily on Katie Butterfield, Revenue Cycle Supervisor, with every question and training need that cropped up. Katie is a great resource, and I appreciate her willingness to help; however, I was left with the nagging feeling that there must be something more I could do to help myself and be a better resource for others. That’s when I started poking around in Procentive and learned about the Training module.

The Training module is located on the left-hand side of your screen near the bottom. I learned that in order to access videos in the Training module, you have to use the Microsoft Edge browser. When you click on a training video, you will get a pop-up that states Adobe Flash content was blocked. You will then click “allow once” to play the video. You will need to do this each time you choose a video. I would like to send a shout out to Mike Senn for helping me figure out how to access the Training module via these work-arounds!

In one afternoon, I completed part of the New Customer Training (Full Product), including the Introduction, Training and Ticketing Modules and Clients Module. Each section includes a tutorial video and a corresponding handout. I am plugging the Training module resource, despite the need for work-arounds to get into it, because I found it helpful, and I know I can go back there to look for answers when I need them. I am going to set aside time in the near future to go through the Reports Module training. I encourage you to check out the Training module!

The Knowledge Hub is another Procentive resource located at the very bottom of the modules list. I have yet to dig around in there, but that is also on my list for the near future.

No electronic health records system is without its pros and cons. I found it reassuring to learn that several other Minnesota-based organizations similar to Family & Children’s Center utilize Procentive. Implementing an EHR is a huge undertaking, and some of you that have been around for a while may recall that Procentive is actually the second EHR system that FCC began implementing. We started implementation with another system and determined it was not the right fit for us, so we went back to the drawing board at that time and eventually selected Procentive.

Using an EHR is imperative for an agency like ours, and it is also a huge financial investment. We need to make the best of what we’ve got! I am sending out a friendly challenge to each of you to get to know Procentive a little bit better than you do now. Commit to using the system to the fullest. Be thoughtful about the information you are putting into Procentive, because we can only pull out data that we put in. The more we learn about Procentive and implement what we’ve learned, the better this system will work for all of us!
