Fun Facts About Kathy

Where is your favorite place in the world?

  • My husband and I really enjoy traveling and like to mix it up, so I don’t have one favorite place.  Some of the places I’ve been to include Alaska, Germany, the Netherlands, France, Ireland, Norway, Switzerland, Greece, Italy, Jamaica, Canada and Yugoslavia (back when it was Yugoslavia).  We love to travel with friends and with my nieces and nephews, they keep us active on our trips! I’m hoping to do a lot of traveling within the United States and Canada when I retire.  I’d like to do more of the Appalachian Trail backpacking and see more of the national parks.

What is something other FCC staff might not know about you?

  • I have tons of fun planning trips and create elaborate power point presentations to prepare for trips, then enjoy reminiscing about trips after coming back- so I tend to think of traveling in those 3 stages: preparing, the trip itself, and the fun times looking back on the trip.

If you had a different career, what would it be?

  • If I were going to have a different type of career, it would be as a travel agent!

What animal do you think most closely matches your personality?

  • A dolphin! They seem to have a lot of fun, they’re very social, and I love the water. I got to swim with dolphins in the wild in Florida and it was amazing!

What is the craziest thing you have ever done?

  • I quit a great job with a great team to do some soul searching and work on myself after getting divorced and had no job to go to or income or health insurance.  I went on a backpacking trip on the Superior Hiking Trail in Northern Minnesota and got lost and to be totally cliché, found myself.  But seriously, I got very lost.   And luckily, when I was ready to return to work, FCC took me back.  I had a lot of fun working in new locations and learning new things and I am now full circle back to the original program I started with, 25 years ago, Community Support Program (CSP) in Viroqua.  There’s something about CSP that is so inspiring, to be a part of people’s life journey in the way we are.

What is your favorite thing to do when you are not working?

A big part of my off time is spent preparing for each year’s Snowflake Ski Jumping Tournament in Westby at the ski hill.  We spend a lot of time working on the hill, the machinery, fundraising, and organizing for the tournament.  My husband, Jim, proposed to me at the 2019 tournament opening ceremony!  We got married last September at Wildcat Mountain State Park.  Putting on ski jumping tournaments is both a great and awful hobby, because it’s just amazing to see folks ski jump but we are always faced with break downs and weather problems that make it seem like the jump won’t happen that year, but in the last days we seem to pull it off.
