Destination Innovation

FCC Staff are innovating every day! Darci and the gang at Hiawatha Hall have an innovative way to motivate each other to improve their health & wellness. Read on for her description of “Fat Camp”:

Fat Camp is an idea we came up with because almost all the staff at HH wanted to lose weight or get in shape for various reasons. We decided to create this challenge to help support each other accomplish our goals. It is not a competition among each other but rather support for each other. Each camper pays a 3.00 monthly fee. There is a board in the staff office with everyone’s name on it. Each month each person sets goals for themselves for that month. We also have monthly challenges for all the staff, for example last month’s was for each staff to exercise 30 min 5 days a week. At the end of the month, each staff gets a star by their name for the number of goals and challenges they meet.

Also, at the end of the month, everyone that completed any goals gets their name in a jar. Their name goes in the jar for as many goals as they complete. For example, if they met 2 of their monthly goals and met the extra goal, their name will go in the jar 3 times. We draw 2 names out of the jar at the end of the month and those 2 people get prizes (that is where the 3.00 monthly fee goes towards).

We have a Facebook page that we post funny memes and recipes to motivate each other. We also send out emails a few times a month to check in with everyone.

We just finished up our first month and our first drawing was last week. It has been a lot of fun and everyone has met at least 1 of their goals, some have met many. Right now we have 13 members which is really awesome!!!!!!!!!!

Way to go Hiawatha Hall for innovating a way to keep people on track with their goals!
