Hello! I have recently joined Family & Children’s Center as the Chief Financial Officer (CFO). I graduated from Winona State University with a bachelor’s in Accounting and 2 minors in Business Law and English (writing). For the past 18 years, I have worked in the position as CFO / Director of Finance at various nonprofits, coming directly from Chileda Institute. Prior to that, I worked at Riverfront (Aptiv) and at Hiawatha Valley Mental Health Center in Winona, MN. Right after graduating from college, I worked at 2 CPA firms and a fortune 500 company. I have experience in payroll, payroll taxes, financial reporting, grant reporting, billing, insurance billings, allocation processes, etc.
In my role as CFO at Family & Children’s Center, I directly supervise the accounting department staff (Tracy LeJeune, and Dawn Reisner), the Revenue Cycle Supervisor (Katie Butterfield) and the Facilities Supervisor (Dave Paape).
In my role, I oversee all of the financial pieces throughout the agency including payroll, grant / fiscal reporting, accounts payable, contracting, leases, facilities, general & property insurance, and revenue / billing. I prepare monthly financial reports that are given to Directors and Coordinators. In addition, I do another overall analytical summary of the financials to present to the Board of Directors for their review, discussion, and approval.
In the past two months, I have completed many budgets for Request for Proposals, and grants for continuation of funding. I also completed extensive reports to the State of WI DCF for continued funding for WI Treatment Foster Care and the Weston Youth Group Home.
I helped finalize the 2017 audited financials, and from this, will need to work with our auditors to submit a 990 tax return to the IRS and annual returns to WI and MN, prior to August 15th. In addition, Melissa Duin and I (minimally) had auditors come to review our 401K plan and its assets. From this report, another report (5500 tax form) will need to be completed and submitted.
These past few weeks, I have been working on the June financial statements, and all of the quarterly reports of grants, and payroll taxes reports that are due this month to get us right back on track in those areas.
I hope this gives you a little glimpse of the day and the life of the CFO.
