Family & Children’s Center’s mission is to serve children, families and individuals with a continuum of services designed to strengthen families and promote individual well-being. Every day across two states, staff strive to make a difference in their communities and in their client’s lives. For many of you it is not an easy job and there are often set-backs that can be discouraging, however, those set-backs do not define you. It is the small victories and successes in your clients lives that do, and motivate you to continue providing quality care. As the end of 2015 nears, I want to share one of those success stories with you.
Jim Maloney is a consumer enrolled in the Community Support Program (CSP) in La Crosse. For those of you unfamiliar with the program, it provides comprehensive mental health, substance abuse, and case management services to adults diagnosed with a severe and persistent mental illness. Because this diagnosis affects all aspects of an individual’s life, effective treatment must address not only the management and reduction of symptoms, but also the individual’s full range of unique personal, social and economic needs. Jim has been an active participant in establishing and recruiting other consumers for Chess Club held every Thursday at 12:30pm in GVC; a way to meet his social needs and connect with others. Additionally, he has been participating in the hiring process for CSP Staff. Furthermore, when Jim noticed that the fish in the CSP waiting room tank were looking a little squished, he donated an old tank of his to the program to use. Jim has taken full advantage of the opportunities FCC has offered him and is giving back to support other consumers. It is people like Jim that make all of your hard work worth it.
Thank you to all employees for your constant commitment to our clients.
