Performance Reviews 2023

The annual review process has gotten underway and we want to share a couple changes you will be seeing on the forms and also let you know the due dates which have been communicated to the Leadership Team. The first you will note is that the rating scale now has five categories (in addition to keeping Too Recent To Evaluate) along with 7 numerical ratings.

The rating categories are as follows:

Exceeds All Expectations   Consistently exceeds expectations. Performance is above and beyond what is expected and is clearly evident to others.

Generally Exceeds Expectations   Can be relied upon to meet and exceed expectations most of the time and is often viewed by others as a role model.

Fully Meets Expectations   Competently performs in this factor. Regularly and fully meets expectations in this area.

Generally Meets Expectations    Performance meets most expectations for this factor, but occasionally needs to be improved.

Below Expectations   Performance in this factor does not meet expectations.

Too Recent To Evaluate

Generally Exceeds and Fully Meets will each get two possible ratings – a higher and a lower one, while the other rating categories will each have one.

The other change is the addition of Soft Skills along with Mission/Vision/Values. These were added to move the review process closer to supporting a merit increase system. While that is not happening right now, we believe these changes are a step in that direction by creating opportunities to differentiate individuals.

The Soft Skills which will be on the form are:

Communication   Written and oral communication is understandable, persuasive and minimizes the use of industry-specific terms when possible. Proactively communicates with colleagues, community representatives and referral entities.

Teamwork   Collaborates with others, contributes personal suggestions and assures the ideas of others are solicited.  Able to work with a diverse population and deal positively with conflict, and always moving towards resolution.

Time Management    Manages to limit the impact of other factors that could hinder completing her/his work.  Demonstrates an expected sense of urgency to requests, and effectively prioritizes asks from superiors and peers.

Listening   Uses listening skills to understand what is important for dealing with the circumstances at hand and to the people involved. Demonstrates obvious, external clues to encourage others to provide complete information.

Curiosity   Shows an interest in new and different things and a willingness to apply her/himself. Infectious desire for intuitive and ongoing learning. Does not show discomfort in unfamiliar settings.

There is nothing new or different in terms of behavior as it relates to these skills, and you have probably seen the research about the relationship between soft skills and effectiveness with others and on the job. Including these skills provides a solid framework for feedback as well as strengthening the rating process.

And the part that everyone is probably wondering about – the time frame. Reviews will be written by Friday, February 10, and feedback meetings complete by Friday, March 3. If you have any questions about reviews please check with your supervisor or director.
